New York Rangers Reportedly Looking For A Significant Return In Possible Brennan Othmann Trade
The New York Rangers have received calls for one of their top prospects, Brennan Othmann. While GM Chris Drury isn't looking to offload him soon, they hope to maximize the value of his return.
It appears that
while a trade may not be in motion, the rumors are buzzing around forward Brennan Othmann. The former 1st-round pick is stuck in the AHL after failing to make the NHL for another season.
The team has received multiple calls on the forward, and they aren't ready to move on from him just yet. But in order to make a deal work for the RFA (restricted free agent) forward, his cost-controlled contract will come at a nice price.
Brennan Othmann Needs A Fresh Start
The New York Rangers prospect and the team have mutually agreed that he could do better elsewhere if he's given
fresh start and a chance to revive his career.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman first noted that Othmann's name was «gaining traction» in trade discussions, while The Athletic's Vincent Mercogliano later confirmed that the Rangers are open to moving the 22-year-old winger. Though no formal trade request has been made, both sides reportedly agree that a «fresh start» could benefit Othmann's development.
Despite his first-round selection and his offensive upside, the forward hasn't been able to crack a consistent role in the Rangers' lineup.
He's only played a total of 25 games in the NHL since 2023, scoring 2 points (2 A). Since then, he's languished in development hell with the AHL's Hartford Wolfpack.
Discussions are just beginning, as we won't see the result of these talks until March at the earliest or July if they can't find a new home.
