The New York Rangers have made a surprising announcement regarding forward Artemi Panarin--as he has been voted Team MVP. We have no doubt that Peter Laviolette and GM Chris Drury cast their votes correctly.
The New York Rangers have gone into postseason mode and begun to hand out awards to players for their contributions. Already, we've seen the Rangers announce a Team MVP--- and "good guy" by the New York Rangers media.
Note: The good guy award is given by the Rangers media as someone is easy to talk to
Who does that award go to? None other than the Rangers' best forward, Artemi Panarin.
Panarin might be soft-spoken, but he's a sniper on the ice, and this season has shown his elite skills haven't waned.
This season in 79 games, he's scored 89 points (37 goals, 52 assists).
Panarin has come a long way from his NHL debut on March 7th, 2015, which saw him score his first goal, against the Rangers, ironically enough.
His first 19 games in the NHL saw him score 21 points, and ended the year with 77 points in 80 games.
Panarin's first NHL hat-trick, if we're going to go that far back was also against the Rangers on February 17th, 2016. Now, he's six years into his career with the Rangers and on the hunt for a Stanley Cup that's eluded him in Chicago and Columbus.
These awards are just a cherry on top of a long NHL career that has been fruitful for the Korkino, Russia-born forward.
Panarin is just one point shy of 90 points this season. That could come against his friend
Nikita Kucherov and the Tampa Bay Lightning tomorrow.
