Remy Mastey of Yahoo Sports reported that the New York Rangers are expecting newly signed forward Sam Carrick to replace former Rangers forward Barclay Goodrow.

Carrick, who is coming off from a Stanley Cup final loss, but the Edmonton Oilers signed a three-year deal with the Rangers worth $3,000,000 during the summer. Holding a cap hit of $1,000,000 per season is a far cry from what Goodrow was holding at $3.6 million per season.
Head coach Peter Laviolette expects Carrick to have a physicality and an edge to his game that will fill the void with Goodrow's departure. While speaking with Dan Rosen of NHL.com Laviolette expressed his thoughts.
"He brings some grit, sandpaper, face-offs, some physicality," Laviolette said via Dan Rosen of NHL.com. "It's tough losing Barclay, but we replaced him with a character person that bangs bodies, will hit and fight for his teammates, chip in some offense and play some good defense."
His style of play will benefit the Rangers especially on the penalty kill and will also be a major component of their fourth line Pitt last season, Carrick scored ten goals with six assists for 16 points through 77 games between the Anaheim Ducks and the Oilers.
It's clear that general manager Chris Drury thinks very highly of him and could be one of the biggest steals of the off season in the NHL.
