While New York Rangers fans may be saddened due to the retirement of announcer Sam Rosen, rejoice! As he's not left us at all. Thanks to GM Chris Drury the voice of Madison Square Garden and the Rangers' will continue his engagement with the hockey fans in New York into the future.

The New York Rangers' offseason continues, as players travel across the states to take part in charity events and train.
But Sam Rosen, who has recently retired after 40 years in the booth of Madison Square Garden, would have a ceremony in his honor, as the voice of the Rangers. The 77-year-old would be given tribute videos and gifts from both home and opposing teams this year.
On March 22nd, the team would honor his contributions to the team, including his memorable calls, and the game would be commemorated in to him.
Rosen:
«In looking back at it once I had a chance to kind of sit down and reflect on how it all went, it was overwhelming and tremendously emotional, tremendously gratifying,» Rosen said. «Virtually every city that we went to, the acknowledgement of the teams, the players, the management, the fans in virtually every city was amazing. I can't thank all those teams enough. I can't thank the players, and the coaches, and again, the management enough.

«They were just so warm and gracious and receptive. It just it hit me when the season ended that it was so rewarding that I had made contact, not personally with all the people around the league, but the contact of the emotion and the energy and the excitement that I felt throughout my career, that I had made that contact around the league, and to get the reception I got was just wonderful.»

While Rosen has officially stepped away from the game of hockey, he's not giving it up at all and will remain in touch with the fans through limited engagements thanks to GM Chris Drury.
«Chris Drury came to me prior to the end of this past season and said, 'Sam, we're going to have a lot of events, and we'd like you to be part of them.' And as I said to him, wholeheartedly, 'absolutely, yes, I'm thrilled.' Whatever they want me to do, whatever the Rangers ask of me, I'll be happy to do, because they've given me so much, and I can only continue the feelings that I have for the Rangers organization,» Rosen said about his future.

Rosen won't be giving up his talents to sit on the couch, as he's going to pursue other ventures, similar to Don Cherry, and will instead be taking up podcasting in his retirement.
«I would say that we've had some preliminary conversations about a podcast or two,» Rosen emphasized. «I would like to do it with John Davidson. I hope he and I can collaborate on a podcast because he's been a longtime friend, and we are, to this day, close friends, and I would love to be able to do something like that. My strength has always been my ability to talk and use my mouth, and God gave me a voice that has been good to me and to fans, and I'd like to continue that somewhere along the line. So I would think a podcast would be something that I'd be interested in.»

He's exploring other avenues of gifting fans insight into his life, views, and experiences as an announcer for the team. But nothing has been announced as concrete in decision-making terms yet.
«There's nothing immediately in the works,» Rosen said about the potential of writing a book. «I know my family does want me to write a book. So yes, there's the thought of maybe writing a book. There's a question within our family as to, what type of book should it be? Should it revolve around the Rangers? Should it revolve around the Rangers championship season? Should it revolve around my entire career and what I accomplished, and where I've been, and where I went?

«So that's open for discussion, but I would say within the next couple of months we'll try to have a decision as to what road we're going to take and what road I'll take.»

Rosen will now take time away from the sport of hockey and spend his time with his family, an experience he doesn't get enough of as a former announcer of an Original Six hockey team.
It's time for him to slow down before he returns to honor us with his presence and wisdom once more in the future.
«I still have a lot of passion, a lot of energy for the sport that I love, and sports in general, but especially hockey, and I hope to remain relevant and be able to contribute something along the way,» said Rosen. "It's been great to spend time and just relax, go to baseball games, go to graduations, play some golf, and just enjoy time in general, but as I mentioned, I still want to be involved.»
