New York Rangers latest acquisition will be major a problem this upcoming season
The New York Rangers latest acquisition is set to become a major problem this upcoming season, and it's not what you may be thinking.
48-year-old Drury, who knows the defensive position quite well due to his past in the NHL while playing center, often known as the team's third defenseman, has led him to totally reconstruct the team's blue line.
The other recent departure is defenseman Zac Jones, who Drury let walk in free agency to test the open market.
This past season, Drury was able to add Urho Vaakainen, Will Borgen, and
Carson Soucy all to their defensive depth charts through contract extensions as well as at the March 7th NHL trade deadline.
Gavrikov is expected to play a heavy amount of minutes underneath newly appointed head coach Mike Sullivan, taking a great amount of pressure off of
Adam Fox.
According to a
latest report, the Rangers and Kings were working on a sign-and trade for Gavrikov before he inked his long-term deal with the organization.
That certainly would've changed things, as we would've witnessed a key player out the door.
But thankfully Chris Drury patiently waited until free agency, which has now made the Rangers blue line a major problem for their Metro Division opponents this offseason.
With the Rangers in a much better spot than they were one year ago, it's all but confirmed that we may see the boys in blue back in a playoff spot in no time.
