The New York Rangers have high hopes for defenseman Scott Morrow, who was acquired in the K'Andre Miller trade with the Carolina Hurricanes. GM Chris Drury made a splash acquiring the defenseman, along with draft capital attached.

Scott Morrow is steadily drawing comparisons between himself and defenseman Adam Fox. Both are puck-moving defenseman who are offensively gifted and arrived vis a vis the Carolina Hurricanes.
Fox was drafted by the Flames, and would later make his way to the New York Rangers by way of trades from both Calgary and Carolina, all the while, the 66th overall selection was playing for the Harvard Crimson.

Scott Morrow's Future Projections In the NHL

For the Hurricanes, Morrow's situation was similar, as he had leverage against the team, but GM Don Waddell signed him and didn't make the same mistake that they did with Adam Fox.
«Last year with Morrow he was going to graduate earlier, unbeknownst to anybody,» Waddell said. «If we didn't get him signed before Aug. 15 (2024), he would've been free.»

Morrow would establish himself in the AHL and would find himself suiting up in 14 NHL games.
But the Hurricanes moved Morrow to the Rangers on July 1 as part of the K'Andre Miller sign-and-trade. It wasn't because Morrow demanded a trade, but rather because Carolina wanted Miller - they quickly signed the 25-year-old defenseman to an eight-year, $60 million contract that carries an average annual value of $7.5 million.

While Morrow's journey to the NHL isn't identical to Fox's, he's proven to be a capable defenseman, scoring 94 points (28-66) in 109 games with the UMass Minutemen.
The defenseman proved himself to be a First-Team-All-American, scoring 33 points in his first year with UMass. Against, not a mirror of Fox, but proving he's more than capable of holding his own on the ice.
It's likely he competes for a spot in the roster, and could win a spot in the third-pairing, as another puck-moving defenseman.
Will he ever win a Norris Trophy?
