Recently, shockwaves were sent pulsating through the NHL as the Vancouver Canucks dished defenceman Carson Soucy to the New York Rangers one day prior to NHL trade deadline. Not many saw this coming, but one person who's thrilled? Head coach Peter Laviolette.
The New York Rangers have been one of the hotter teams in the NHL the past two weeks, and it appears that GM Chris Drury came into the deadline with a clear focus to improve his team.
Well folks, it appears that Drury has done just that with Carson Soucy's acquisition.
Head Coach Peter Laviolette comments on Soucy
Today, New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette made himself available to the media, emphasizing his excitement regarding his new blue-liner.
Laviolette on Soucy: "Big left shot D. He can take down some minutes. A lot of experience. He's a good defender."
Said he doesn't want to get into where he'll play until he has a chance to talk with him and other defensemen about it.
According to Laviolette, the New York Rangers are welcoming Soucy's big shot from the point, in addition to his sound defensive capabilities.
As per Canucks Daily, Soucy, 30, is in his second season with the Vancouver Canucks after signing a three-year deal back in the summer of 2023 worth $3.25 million annually.
In 59 games this year for the Canucks, the Viking, Alberta native has put up ten points (three goals, seven assists), 42 penalty minutes and is a minus-13.
While its unclear where Soucy will fit into the Rangers depth chart, the team now has a real shot to make the 2025 postseason.
