GM Chris Drury and the New York Rangers are looking to sever their ties with Arthur Kaliyev. The former 1st-round pick was taken out of the lineup with an upper-body injury, which put him out indefinitely. Now, the former Los Angeles Kings waiver pickup will have to hunt elsewhere for a role in the NHL.

Arthur Kaliyev hasn't since the New York Rangers lineup since March 2025. He's out of the lineup indefinitely due to an upper-body injury and unfortunately never made a mark in New York like he'd hoped to.
The New York Rangers added no meaningful depth that'd help push them into the Stanley Cup playoffs, and now, with a massive retool on the horizon, Kaliyev is an easy player to cut, unfortunately.
For the RFA, with no qualifying offer in his future, the Rangers won't retain his rights, and he'll be a UFA in July like his fellow teamless NHLers.
The heads would begin to roll with Peter Laviolette being the first casualty of the failures of 2024-25.
Now, we continue to see the fallout wreak havoc throughout the team, as the former waiver wire pickup won't be back next season.
His poor statistics didn't help his cause. Per Jennifer Streeter of Blue Line Station:
Neither his shots or push for scoring chances were spectacular. In his 14 games he had a 47.48 expected goals for percentage, and a 48.68 Corsi for percentage according to Evolving-Hockey, and that suggests more often than not he was chasing play as opposed to driving it.

The former 33rd overall pick in 2019, known for his fierce shooting skills, wasn't able to capitalize on 14 games with the Blueshirts and will have to find work elsewhere.
He scored a total of 4 points (3-1) in 14 games with the Rangers.
If General Manager and President Chris Drury decides to let Kaliyev enter unrestricted free agency, the loss of a player who didn't do much more than skate for 14 games wouldn't impact the Blueshirts much at all moving forward.

Maybe he can find a spot on a rebuilding NHL lineup, as projects such as Kaliyev would have more attention and more leeway than he did in New York.
