New York Rangers defenseman K'Andre Miller makes strong admission to play for Team USA
The New York Rangers will have to figure out what their next steps with RFA K'Andre Miller are as GM Chris Drury ponders their cap implications of multiple signings during the year. In the meantime, K'Andre Miller may have a shot to play with Team USA once again.
The New York Rangers' season is over, and thankfully, we can think about July instead. The team will have to ponder what to do to maximize their cap space and finalize the roster for next season during the summer.
But one RFA whose future is in question in New York is K'Andre Miller, who has yet to be offered an extension by the team.
This season in 73 games with the Rangers, he's put up 26 points (7 goals, 19 assists), joining his teammates in a less-than-stellar performance during the 2024-2025 season.
Now, he's been anticipating Team USA to ask him to play this summer in international competition.
While he hasn't officially been approached, he addressed the possibility of playing in the IIHF tournaments this year.
It could be a chance at redemption for the Rangers defenseman and gain his confidence back, which had been missing for the majority of the season.
Miller is still growing as a defenseman and could turn out to be the kind of two-way player on the blueline the team needs in the long haul of a postseason run.
But this year was a down year for him and many of his teammates.
A trip to the IIHF tournament wouldn't be a bad idea, and would be a great way to show us that he is still capable of being a top-four defenseman.
Miller's contract with the Rangers expires in July and pays him an AAV of $3.8 million. Upon expiry, he'll be an RFA.
