New York Rangers biggest divisional rivals have just been handed a suspension following a heated matchup on Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
New York Islanders forward Jonathan Drouin has been suspended for one game following a brutal cross-check he threw to the face of Connor Dewar of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Metropolitan Division is full of heated rivalries, and the latest one between the Islanders and Penguins has gained the attention of the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety.
NHL Department of Player Safety Made Their Final Ruling
The incident occurred after only 15 seconds to go in the game, as Drouin shoved his stick into Dewar's face and then forced him down to the ground clearly indicating that he was looking to hurt the 26-year old forward.
Something that warranted the Department of Player Safety to demand a on-phone hearing, a hearing that could lead to a five-game suspension.
NY Islanders' Jonathan Drouin will have a hearing today for cross-checking Pittsburgh's Connor Dewar.
However, a final conclussion was made as NHL insider Chris Johnston was first to confirm Jonathan Drouin's fate, as the NHL Department of Player Safety announced he would only face a one-game suspension.

Drouin had just recently signed a two-year, $8-million deal with the Islanders throughout the offseason and is coming off 37-point season with the Colorado Avalanche in 2024-25 (11 goals, 26 assists). A career total of 375 points in 608 career games (108 goals, 267 assists)
Certainly not the start the former 2013, 3rd overall draft pick wanted but unfortunately it's the price he needs to pay for his actions.
