When the 2025-26 season takes shape, the newest Rangers Head Coach, Mike Sullivan, will be the one person to lead the way. He was hired after Peter Laviolette was quickly sacked by Chris Drury. Sullivan took questions today, regarding what it means to be a coach for the Original Six team.

Mike Sullivan and Chris Drury took questions today from the local media, as he has returned to the Rangers after a long tenure in Pittsburgh.
Sullivan would lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Stanley Cup twice and would win in both finals. He knows what it takes to win and has that experience to show the Rangers what it does to do so in the NHL.
The former Rangers assistant, and now head coach, would be enthused with the ability to take on the next challenge in his career, which is to make the Rangers a competitive unit again.

Mike Sullivan and His Latest Challenge: The New York Rangers

I'm real excited. It's, you know,it's hard for me to, you know,to articulate in words, quite honestly, you know, this is a new challenge for me and You know,
I so look forward to the opportunity to get on the ice with these guys.

You know, as I said, I've got to know some of the, some of the leadership,
uh, group here in the offseason. We've had a lot of conversations leading up to this training camp. Uh, there's been a lot of preparation going into this process,
going up, leading up to tomorrow. Um, and, uh, I'm glad it's finally here and we can go on the ice and start to execute the game plan, but Uh, it's, it's hard for me to express in words how excited I am about this, about this challenge and about this opportunity.

Uh, you know, I've really enjoyed the partnership that, uh, that Chris and I have built in the time that I've, that I've been here. Uh, it's been a lot of fun in the conversations that we've had together, uh, and, and, you know, trying to create a vision for this team and, and where we potentially we could go. But as I said to the players, nothing is inevitable in this game. We're going to have to go out and earn it every day.

And I look forward to that opportunity with this group.
While nothing is inevitable, and everything is earned, Mike Sullivan has emphasized the partnership he's built with Chris Drury and has remained excited about the newest challenge in New York, which Peter Laviolette endured for two seasons.
The meaning for the newest Rangers coach is to bring back discipline, focus on developing new leadership, and earn every point they can on the ice this season.
Sullivan has coached 917 games in the league, with a record of 479-311-15, and a .592 win percentage.
