New York Rangers center has accomplished an amazing goal, surpassing legend Mark Messier only three games into the 2025-26 season. The team needs him to return to form, as he occupies the 2nd-line center slot in the lineup.

The New York Rangers' Mika Zibanejad has found a way to put his name in the record books of the team this year.
Zibanejad, a 6th overall pick in 2011, has become a key player in the Blueshirts' lineup, typically slotting in as the first-line center, driving offense up until last season.
He'd be demoted throughout the season and would later find himself on JT Miller's wing. Despite all of his issues, he'd remain productive, scoring 62 points (20-42).
The Swedish-born forward isn't stopping this season, as he's just surpassed Mark Messier in the record books.

Mika Zibanejad Surpasses Mark Messier in the Record Books

On Saturday, October 11th, 2025, he surpassed Mark Messier on the most franchise goals in history, with 251.
A sign of the kind of skill we've seen from Zibanejad his entire career in New York, where he's never scored less than 20 goals in an entire season, aside from 2017-18, when he'd only score 14.
While he remains ever vigilant in the hunt for a Stanley Cup, that is the only thing Messier has that he doesn't.
In the meantime, Mika Zibanejad has rejoined the Blueshirts ranks as a center with Artemi Panarin and Alexis Lafreniere on his wings.
Is this a sign of resurgence?
