The New York Rangers need more help down the middle. While the 1C position is set, there remain a lot of questions about the depth remaining. GM Chris Drury could find a solution with the Anaheim Ducks' own Mason McTavish, who has yet to sign a new contract.
According to rumors from Sportsnet, there remain six teams interested in the former 3rd overall pick of the Ducks in 2021.
Last season, McTavish scored 52 points (22-30) slotting in behind
Leo Carlsson on the rebuilding Ducks' 2nd-line. There was speculation that he'd be traded during the postseason due to a lack of a contract signed with his drafting team.
For the Rangers, McTavish's recent breakout year in 2024-25 suggests he could be an instrumental piece down the middle in the hope of a playoff run in 2025.
According to recent reports, the Anaheim Ducks were interested in a top-four defenseman for McTavish.
General Manager Chris Drury could leverage defenseman
Scott Morrow in order to acquire McTavish from the Ducks. Other reports have suggested a player like Axel Sandin-Pellikka would be good enough to make the deal happen.
Either way, GM Chris Drury will have to reach deep in his pocket to acquire the forward.
The forward is an RFA and has yet to sign a new deal in Anaheim, which continues to cause speculation to stir in regards to his future on the West Coast.
