Head Coach Peter Laviolette was asked by New York media if the Rangers plan on placing a "C" on another player. However, all signs point to the New York Rangers not filling the Captain position, after trading Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks.
The New York Rangers haven't had a Captain since the exit of Jacob Trouba from the organization.
Instead of naming a new Captain, Head Coach Peter Laviolette has decided to move forward with the current core of leaders and keep it status quo.
«Not right now,» Laviolette said about if the Rangers have a timeline on naming a captain. «We've got a leadership group that we've been dealing with the whole time. Right now, we're moving forward with that.»
The team has been absent a "true leader" going on two months now, and the team has stuck to their guns.
While they've had players step up to deliver in more than just production, but stood out as leaders, there's been no discussion of the vacant position, Trouba left.
«Especially in this last month and finding success when we needed to, the guys both on the ice and in the locker room for me have identified as leaders and have done a really good job,» Laviolette said.
«For me I think
Ryan Lindgren through his play has come back and has provided some good leadership inside our team based on what he's doing on the ice. I think Trocheck always jumps in and helps out with leadership. You gotta have the guys in the room and on the ice doing the right things and coming to work, in the room and on the ice making sure we are ready to play. I think the guys have done a good job. I think they are all open up.»
It sounds as if Peter Laviolette could select Ryan Lindgren as one option for the Rangers when it comes to the leadership role.
We could see a change in the status quo near the beginning of next season, as new players develop and veterans move out of the lineup, or onto a new team.
Which could very well be, a player such as Mika Zibanejad, or Ryan Lindgren as they've both been floated in trades recently.
The New York Rangers are 5th in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 24-22-4, and 52 points.
Could Matt Rempe earn an "A" alternate Captain patch after this season?
