Jonathan Quick's Newfound Longevity All Thanks To The Backup Role in New York

Of course, Quick isn't the same goalie who helped win multiple Stanley Cups with the Los Angeles Kings.
He was the starting goalie there, up until the end when they traded him in 2022-2023, to the Vegas Golden Knights.
He'd jump from Vegas to Columbus, and finally to New York, as backup to Igor Shesterkin.
He's touted the benefits of being a part-time goalie for the Rangers, which has helped bolster the longevity of his career.
«For the most part I would say it helps as far as you are playing once a week as opposed to three, four times a week,» Quick said about his new role. «For the body, you play that game and you have a couple days to recover and prepare for the next one.
«I just like being around the team. Coming and competing every day. However I can help the team, just tell me what I have to do and I'll do it.»
The Rangers quickly snapped Quick up during free agency in 2023 and has profited since.
Quick has provided stretches of high-level play when Igor Shesterkin has been unable to guard the crease.
Not to mention, he's taken on the de facto mentorship role in the locker room and has been a big help for many rookies like Matt Rempe in the NHL.
Quick's been an exceptional goalie in the NHL, and will likely end his career without tarnishing his legacy.
His record this season is 7-5-2, with a 3.04 GAA, and a .901 save percentage.
