The New York Rangers and JT Miller's reunion may have to wait as details have emerged on the failed trade. According to Canucks Insider Rick Dhaliwal, it was a matter of a draft pick involved.
The New York Rangers have attempted to trade for Vancouver Canucks superstar JT Miller.
Yet, it fell through as the details weren't to the Canucks liking, according to NHL Insider Rick Dhaliwal.
According to Dhaliwal, it wasn't a matter of talent going back, but more so the kind of draft pick going back to Vancouver.
For now, it seems, the Canucks are more open to dealing Miller than Pettersson. That position is largely dictated by the respective ages of the two star pivots (Miller is 31, Pettersson is 26), but until a deal actually occurs involving one or the other, a team source cautioned on Sunday that it's still theoretically possible that this could swing in either direction.
The New York Rangers could have had a top-line center, if they would had relented one on a minor issue regarding a draft pick it sounds like.
But for now, it seems the situation seems fluid between the Rangers and the Canucks.
Nonetheless, conversations around Miller are on the front burner for the Canucks and at the forefront of the NHL trade market. Friedman reported that the Canucks have now given some teams permission to talk to Miller. Miller's agent Brian Bartlett, meanwhile, said on Saturday that his client has never requested or demanded a trade.
With Miller receiving permission to speak to other teams, it seems as if this might escalate depending on whether he chooses to return to the Rangers, or the team finds a deal more to their liking.
Either way, it's been another GM Chris Drury fumble when it comes to securing a superstar.
Won't move on from
Braden Schneider, and won't budge on the protection structure of a draft pick.
How much damage will GM Chris Drury continue to do to this team?
