With officiating of New York Rangers games reaching an all-time low, should the NHL clean house with the referees they have in-house now? NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has an interesting opinion on the topic.
The
New York Rangers are subject to bad officiating like any other team in the NHL. They'd be affected by it during Sunday's game against the Canucks as Wes McCauley would miss an obvious penalty against Will Borgen.
The officiating team would miss what was a high-stick against Borgen, a penalty that was left uncalled, and left the defenseman bloodied.
NHL Insider Frank Servalli shares our frustrations with the lack of competence of officiating on the ice recently, and wouldn't hold back.
"Going through day by day saying the NHL officiating is good is doing everyone a disservice..."
Officiating needs an overhaul. Servalli mentions a whopping number of over 700+ power-play opportunities missed thanks to bad officiating, and the missed call for the high-stick on Borgen is another example of it.
With the NHL GM Meetings passed it seems that the league hasn't figured out a way to put a leash on the officiating and get the house in order.
That should've been one goal all 32 GMs addressed and now punted the issue until next season.
This could be a reason for fans to abandon the NHL product and search for hockey outside of the norm and find the PWHL, and maybe even the KHL as alternatives to a league that can't get out of its own way.
For now, we put up with Gary Bettman and the status quo.
