Former Rangers captain Mark Messier completely shreds apart the organization as struggles continue
Peter Laviolette and the New York Rangers aren't winning any favors this season from NHL analysts on TNT. As Mark Messier and PK Subban didn't hold back on the lackluster performance of the team this year.
The New York Rangers are 36-33-7 and 4th in the Metropolitan Division, and four points away from the Montreal Canadiens in the second wild card spot in the East.
Instead of the Philadelphia Flyers finishing the job against the Canadiens, they'd rally and defeat the team 3-2 on home ice.
A lackluster performance on all accounts for the Flyers, who would've helped the Rangers if they had defeated the Habs on Saturday. With six games in the regular season for both teams left, the Rangers need to play like these games are important.
Something former Ranger Mark Messier noted when he was watching the Rangers game on Saturday.
«I watched the Montreal Canadiens win in overtime the other day, and the celebration, they were so excited,» Messier shared. «I watched the Rangers win in overtime and I didn't see the same amount of excitement and passion for the win. The light's not on - and I don't know why.»
After defeating the San Jose Sharks 6-1 and the Minnesota Wild 5-4. You'd hope they'd maintain their momentum, but they fell flat against the New Jersey Devils.
Sheldon Keefe's Devils would shut down the Rangers, who lacked any sign of life, according to Messier.
Messier's notion was quickly confirmed by his broadcast partner Ray Ferraro:
«There just doesn't seem to be that internal drive or fight right now from the Rangers,» Ferraro concluded.
«They seemed resigned (to missing the playoffs), but they're still in it.»
Keep in mind these comments don't come lightly, as both Ferraro and Messier have both suited up for the Rangers during the 90s.
It seems as if they have decided this season was a wash, and have given up with six games left in the season.
Maybe they were destined to be retooled given how underwhelming their play has been.
