The great one Alex Ovechkin has officially broken Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal scoring record during todays matchup against the New York Islanders.
With a goal today, Alex Ovechkin has officially surpassed Wayne Gretzky and now holds the all-time lead in goals with 895 career goals.
Ovechkin nearly broke the record the other night when the Capitals took on the Blackhawks as he scored twice to tie the record, and nearly netted a hat trick in the final minutes.
When Ovechkin did end up tying the goal scoring record, Capital One Arena went crazy, and all of Ovechkin's teammates came out to celebrate with him.
Wayne Gretzky was in attendance to witness his goal record being tied by one of the greatest goal scorers we have ever seen.
