It was revealed earlier yesterday that the Vancouver Canucks were prepared to trade former New York Rangers centre Filip Chytil Just prior to the March 7th trade deadline.

It appeared that the Canucks were ready to move Chytil back to the Eastern Conference where he would have been traded to the Ottawa Senators.

Chytil would have been flipped for Senators star forward

The Province sports writer Patrick Johnston revealed that the Canucks would have received senators star forward Josh Norris in exchange for Chytil.
The Senators we're preparing to move Norris in an attempt to acquire a centre as the team looked to augment it's forward lines and help push them over the finish line for the playoffs.
"I know that around the trade deadline, we all knew that they were kicking tires on Josh Norris and I'm pretty sure at one point, they were talking about trying to maybe flip Filip Chytil the other way. Chytil has been a good player, but even when he's been healthy, he's not a guy that teams are banging on the door for and now he's coming off another concussion." Johnston said when talking about potential trade pieces for the Vancouver Canucks this summer. - Patrick Johnston

The trade never materialized, and Norris ended up going to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Dylan Cozens which proved to be a great move for the Senators as the team ended up making the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
Chytil had been drafted by the Rangers in 2017, first round 21st pick overall. He had spent eight years with the Rangers it started right away after his drafting where his best year came in 2022-2023 when he played 74 games, scoring 22 goals with 23 assists for 45 points and was a + 15 with 30 penalty minutes.
His biggest issue was his health as every season he has played in the NHL he has not played a full 82 games. This year, he had major issues with concussions which kept him out of the lineup for the Rangers for several weeks.
The Rangers will be looking inward and evaluating all trades they had made over the course of this season as the team continues to sift through one of the most disappointing years in their history as they continue to search for a new head coach.
