The New York Rangers fired Head Coach Peter Laviolette on April 19th, 2025. He could find himself rehired soon, thanks to the Peter DeBoer debacle with the Dallas Stars, as he was fired today after three seasons.
With the Dallas Stars hurriedly firing Peter DeBoer after yet another Western Conference Finals loss, they're on the hunt for a new coach.
With a win-now team pre-built by GM Jim Nill, where could they go looking? At Peter Laviolette, of course!
Laviolette was let go by GM Chris Drury after two seasons in New York. His first season was magical, delivering a Presidents' Trophy run and a trip to the Eastern Conference finals.
His second, he lost the room, and the team lost their mojo, as they failed to clinch a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, finishing 5th, with an ugly 39-36-7 record.
Laviolette isn't known for developing young talent in the NHL, but he's a great hired gun for teams who are ready to win.
With the Dallas Stars making it to consecutive Western Conference Finals, it wouldn't be unreasonable for GM Jim Nill to make a call to Laviolette and see what his vision with the team is.
All they need is that extra push through the WCF gate, and he may be the one to do it.
Laviolette remains interested in a coaching job in the NHL.
