New York Rangers issuse a special announcement regarding legendary goaltender Eddie Giacomin
Today the New York Rangers made an announcement celebrating the legendary goaltender Eddie Giacomin as today is his birthday.
Today is Eddie Giacomin birthday, and the legendary No. 1 is now 86-years old and the New York Rangers made a special post on social media wishing him a happy birthday as the star was born on June 6th, 1939.

Giacomin first began his professional hockey career in 1959, as he played five seasons with Providence of the American Hockey League and didn't play his first NHL game until Oct. 24, 1965, when he was traded to the New York Rangers by thr Providence for a return of four players on May 18, 1965.
Those four players being Marcel Paille, Aldo Guidolin, Sandy McGregor and Jim Mikol.
Eddie Giacomin had quite a career with the New York Rangers as he spent a total of 11 seasons with the organization. However during his 11th season the New York Rangers made the decision to place him on waivers just after four games and was later claimed by the Detroit Red Wings on Oct. 31, 1975.
Giacomin played two-plus seasons with the Red Wings before retiring Jan. 17, 1978, finishing 290-209 with 96 ties, a 2.82 goals-against average, .902 save percentage and 54 shutouts. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Rangers retired his No. 1 on March 15, 1989.
