Dan Muse is now the Head Coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins after an exhausting search. Muse was selected by GM Kyle Dubas due to the work ethic in New York, which put him on the radar of the Penguins GM.

The Pittsburgh Penguins came out of left field this week as they hired former New York Rangers assistant Coach Dan Muse to the role.
GM Kyle Dubas isn't typically one to follow conventions in the NHL, as you've seen his work in Toronto.
Muse wasn't quite the standout candidate as he remains a behind-the-scenes character under Laviolette's regime. But his work ethic set him apart from other candidates.
Elliotte Friedman gave us an insight into the process of a coaching hire, and how having a great work ethic gets you noticed, even if you are behind the scenes.
«When I heard it was Dan Muse I was shocked,» Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman said. «What I learned is I have to put some respect on his name The right people are always watching. If you do a good job, and I'll tell you something, one thing I heard about him in New York was he was consistently the first guy to arrive every day and the last guy to leave. If you are doing the right things, the right people are always watching.»

Muse fits the new Penguins timeline, as Dubas sets the stage for a rebuild. As someone who's worked with prospects in the NHL and the US NDTP, he's a perfect fit for what the Penguins will do in the next five years.
Muse's work with young talent is what put him in the running for the position, according to Friedman.
«What this also does is says a lot about where Pittsburgh is going,» Friedman said about the Penguins' hire of Muse. «Kyle Dubas had made it clear that the rebuild was coming in Pittsburgh. If anyone didn't believe him, if anyone thought Dubas wasn't serious then now what do you think?

It looks like a teardown is in the not-too-far-off future for the Penguins, and Muse will be the one to welcome all the new faces into the lineup and guide them into playoff contention one day.
«You don't hire Dan Muse at this time unless you are simply saying we are going to have a lot of young players here, we are going to be introducing a lot of youthful faces, and we need someone that knows how to connect with them. If you look at Muse, his history of development His strength is young players and development.»
