According to "Morning Cuppa Hockey" podcast host Johnny Lazarus, the New York Rangers are a team to watch for. With former Stanley Cup champion Bowen Byram's name swirling in trade talks, GM Chris Drury has shown interest in the Buffalo Sabres defenseman.
GM Chris Drury is looking to strengthen the left side of the defense. As the retool marches on into July, we could see a massive shift in what the team looks like in October.
That could mean more deals are on the way, as
K'Andre Miller could end up being traded by the beginning of July. Last we heard, there were 12-15 teams interested in acquiring the former first-round pick.
As NHL Insider Johnny Lazarus has his ear to the ground, we assume Chris Drury is poking around and see how much it might cost to pry him from Buffalo come free agency.
In 82 games this season with the Buffalo Sabres, Byram scored a total of 38 points (7-31). Byram just finished his fourth full year in the NHL playing with the Sabres, after a rough history of concussions, putting the brakes on his early development in Colorado.
Byram is currently an RFA and has yet to receive a qualifying offer from the Sabres, but his last deal paid him a total of $3.8 million AAV over the last two years per
PuckPedia.
Byram would be a great addition to a lineup that's seen less than consistent play over the last season. We hope that if he does become a Blueshirt, he can play up to expectations and help push the team into the playoffs.
