3 massive takeaways from The Rangers' dominating 6-1 victory over Macklin Celebrini and the Sharks
The New York Rangers' performance in the SAP Center led to a dominant victory, 6-1 over the San Jose Sharks, and Macklin Celebrini. It was a nice rebound win for a team that lost in OT to the Anaheim Ducks, 5-4, the night prior.
While a win both nights would've been ideal, pushing them into the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, the Rangers are now 35-32-7 after two games on a West Coast trip.
The Rangers have placed themselves ahead of their rivals, the Columbus Blue Jackets and Montreal Canadiens, by two points, while pushing ahead by three from the New York Islanders and Detroit Red Wings.
The team now heads home after a three-game stretch which saw him post a record of 1-1-1.
While not the best record, it is an improvement on the 3-7-2 in their last twelve games prior, where mediocrity reigned supreme.
For now, they'll be resting until their game against the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday.
What are three things Rangers fans should take away from this last game against the Sharks?
Adam Fox and
Artemi Panarin would find a way to contribute two goals apiece that night, and would set the tone. The result? Scoring by committee as twelve of 18 Rangers players had a least one point on the scoreboard that night.
Five recorded two points against the rebuilding Sharks, including
J.T. Miller, who continued his four-game points streak.
Fox's contributions led to him tallying his third two-goal game in his career, while Breadman recorded his 10th goal in March, and 33rd on the year in San Jose's SAP Center.
Astoundingly, five defenseman scored a point as the game showed what the Rangers can do when they put forth a team effort. Only
Carson Soucy was the lone defenseman without a point that night.
39-year-old
Jonathan Quick started his first game since March 7th. The 7-3 thrashing by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Quick was able to stop key moments in the game before the Sharks could capitalize on their only goal, which involved stopping Alex Wennberg on a rush.
He'd stop 21 or 22 shots that night, and had help from the Rangers players who scored six goals.
The 39-year-old actually had a few eye-popping saves before rookie Cam Lund scored his first NHL goal with 2:14 remaining to ruin Quick's bid for his fourth shutout this season.
Quick was able to stop an odd-man rush led by
Will Smith and his snipe from the left, and would put Macklin Celebrini to shame as he shut him down in the third.
Othmann, who was a former 1st-round pick by the Rangers in 2021, continues to generate plays for the team.
The former 1st-rounder found other ways of contributing to the win other than scoring, as he's found a new home on the same line as Artemi Panarin and Vinnie Troecheck.
He set up Adam Fox's second goal with a great pass and once again, came close to scoring his first NHL goal. During the first period, Othmann generated a nice rush but was unable to capitalize.
His 1st NHL goal will come eventually, it's just a matter of if. For now, he's just playing in the right areas of the ice and will score soon. He's found success as a goal-scorer everywhere he's been, including in Hartford, scoring 21 in the AHL.
