The NHL announced four upcoming rule changes during a meeting in New York
The National Hockey League makes 4 rule changes during a meeting in New York.
The NHL is always looking to improve the league, and try to add new rules that will help these improvements.
However, during a meeting today in New York, the NHL made an announcement that they will be adding four new rules that will impact different parts of the game for the upcoming season.
The new rules were announced by Eric Engles on X (twitter) today:
1.Expansion of coach's challenge for puck-over-glass (only to challenge a called penalty, not to put one on the board).
2.Attacking players now get warned instead of removed from face off following an icing call.
3.Inadvertently knocking the net off rule (64.A iv)will now also apply to goalies (if they or anyone on the team does it, attacking team gets to choose face off location in o-zone and defending team can't change).
4.Rule 75.3 instituted for unsportsmanlike conduct-offending team will be first warned (and then penalized if they didn't heed the warning) for players hanging over the boards prior to a line change.
Regardless If these changes are game breaking or not, they will definitely help to make the game of hockey better.
