It was a day that was circled on many calendars across the NHL when the Chicago Blackhawks announced the retiring of Chris Chelios' jersey.
He was one of the best players in the United States for his era and he was a phenomenal talent.
During his ceremony, Chris Chelios reached out and sent a tremendous recognition to all the fans the United centre about former Rangers forward
Patrick Kane.
Both superstars followed a similar path as they both played for the Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings.
They also shared the amount of cup wins they have in their trophy case.
Both had three Stanley Cup wins with three different organizations including the Canadiens, Red Wings for Chris Chelios and Blackhawks for Patrick Kane.
Chris Chelios had an illustrious career that began in 1981 when he was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens, in the second round, 40th overall.
His career as a defenseman was off the charts as he had played 1651 games, scoring 185 goals with 763 assists for 948 points and was a + 351.
When he decided to hang up his skates in 2010 he was well known through the league as a hard nosed player who had a physicality that many could not match.
He would always make the opposition no that it would be extremely difficult to get out of their end of the rink.
