The New York Rangers have a great prospect in Hockey East, in the NCAA. Gabe Perreault, son of the face-off king in Chicago, Yanic has earned an honor in the league this week.
Perreaultearned "Hockey East Co-Player of the Week" honors when he scored three goals this week. Two of which were game-winning goals against St. Cloud State on Friday and Saturday.
Friday night, Perreault extended the Eagles lead to 2-0 by scoring a power-play goal at 5:22 of the second period, when he fired a laser of a shot under the cross bar. He iced the 4-1 win with an empty-net goal with four seconds remaining, and finished with three shots on goal and a plaus-1 rating.
Perreault has improved his offensive play this season. Last year it took 17 games for Perreault to score 5 goals, now the forward has five goals in six games with the Eagles.
After St. Cloud State failed to clear the defensive zone, teammate James Hagens forced a turnover and passed to Perreault who deked the goalie and scored a game-winning goal.
When Stan Fischler approves of the prospect you know you got a real one.
. Writing for The Hockey News, veteran reporter Steve Zipay - who I happen to admire a great deal - says "Perreault is the top offensive force among Blueshirt prospects and he has tremendous hockey I.Q. and skill."
