Tensions rise as Igor Shesterkin losses his cool after being injured during Rangers practice
The New York Rangers frustrations have bubbled over into practice, after Jonny Brodzinski's one-time hurt goalie Igor Shesterkin. Shesterkin's frustration would be visible after he slammed his stick into the boards. Is it all coming apart at the seams?
The New York Rangers have lost three out of their last four games. Only one of those teams was a fringe playoff team, their Metropolitan Division rivals the Columbus Blue Jackets.
With a string of losses the burden of guilt the players must be feeling has to be immense, and emotions are palpable.
As reported by Vince Mercogliano today the New York Rangers were practicing, and goalie Igor Shesterkin was in pain.
He'd taken a one-time to the chest and felt the pain course through him as he knelt over the crease. He'd take a minute to skate out of place, and in frustration slam his stick against the boards.
It was Jonny Brodzinski's shot that caused the whole thing which was caught on SNY cameras.
Not only did the New York Rangers lose the game to the Toronto Maple Leafs on home ice 4-3, but Shesterkin left the ice that night with a sub-900 save percentage.
.857, saving 24 of 28 shots against him.
While the Rangers blueline showed no kind of push back against the Berube-led Maple Leafs.
Undoubtedly, Brodzinski's shot was painful, but there was more bubbling underneath Shesterkin's skin that would cause a massive reaction like that.
The Rangers are now 5th in the Metropolitan Division, with a record of 33-31-6 with 70 points, and four points out of a wild card spot.
Shesterkin's back, and he's pissed.
