The New York Rangers will face off against their top-center JT Miller's old team the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. While he was shipped to the Rangers in January, you always wonder if there was bad blood between the organization and the player at times, not true for Miller.
In light of the reunion between Miller and the Canucks on the ice, he felt the need to assert himself in the conversation that led to the trade. Where Jim Rutherford would mention that the Miller and Pettersson drama was hurting the team.
«The whole me-and-Petey thing, it's still blown out of proportion,» Miller said, per Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre. «I get what Jim was doing. I have a ton of respect for Jim, and I talked with Jim after that (story). I wasn't mad; I understand everybody has a job to do. Clearly, if me and Petey were better than we were, obviously this might be different. But it's also not as bad as everybody thought either. It's just an easy thing for everybody to run with. There was just a lot of moving parts.»
Miller would make his way home to Madison Square Garden, by way of Tampa Bay and Vancouver.
He'd tally some impressive numbers in Vancouver, scoring 437 points in 404 games played wearing the Canucks crest.
While there was a breaking point for Miller, he has fond memories of his time in Vancouver and Rogers Arena.
«They created a lot of special memories for me and my family, especially in the playoffs last year,» he added. «I have three young children and one of their favorite memories was the fans chanting my name, probably something I'll never get back. But their honesty, their passion I feel like I pride myself on a lot of the same things (the fans) do. They're obsessed with their hockey there and obsessed with their team, and they're always blunt. Not to like that would be pretty hypocritical.»
Miller hasn't stopped his elite production, as he's scored 18 points in 20 games as a blue shirt.
The game between both clubs will have not only a special meaning for Miller, as he reunites with friends and colleagues.
But it'll be a must-win for the Rangers who hope to attain a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
He'll have to go through his old friends and
Elias Pettersson to get those 2 points desperately needed.
The Canucks aren't quite the same team as they were last year, and the Rangers may have a shot at bridging the gap between themselves and the Canadiens on Saturday.
