24-year-old New York Rangers defenseman Braden Schneider has found his name in trade rumors again. Given that Chris Drury wouldn't budge on him in the past, could this year be the year he moves him?
The New York Rangers selected Braden Schneider 19th overall in the 202 NHL Draft. He began his career with the team during the 2021-22 NHL Season, after a short stint in the AHL with the Wolfpack.
As a shutdown defenseman, he's never typically scored more than 21 points (6-15) in 2024-25, and has been a bottom-four defenseman in the league.
But interest hasn't died down for Schneide; if anything, it has sustained, as the Fourth Period has reported that GM Chris Drury is still taking calls on him. But no real news on a move.
But could it happen in the future?
Braden Schneider: A 1st-round pick of the New York Rangers
Schneider has plenty of NHL experience, which could benefit a team that could finalize a trade.
He's played 296 games in the league and scored 71 points (18-53) exclusively as a Blueshirt.
Originally selected 19th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft, he's fared better as a Blueshirt than his 1st-overall counterpart, Alexis Lafreniere.
The question is, will Chris Drury be willing to move the future RFA?
