Former rival of the New York Rangers and first-round draft pick has officially returned to professional hockey after retiring four-years ago.
According to latest reports, New Jersey Devils former 20th overall draft pick of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Jacob Josefson, has returned to the ice after retiring four-years ago, as he signed a new deal with the Djurgardens IF in the SHL
Former New York Rangers Rival Makes Unexpected Return To Professional Hockey
Before being taken with the
20th pick of the 2009 NHL Draft, Jacob Josefson had previously played for the Djurgardens IF before starting his career in North America with the Albany Devils of the American Hockey League.
However, after dealing with several injuries that kept Josefson from playing a full season with the New Jersey Devils, as the most games he has played in a single season in the NHL was 62 games during the 2014-15 season.
Josefson, then later signed with the Buffalo Sabres on a one-year contract for the 2017-18 season, ultimately ending his NHL career after 39 games due to ongoing injury issues.
Resulting in him to take his career to Sweden and rejoin the Djurgardens IF for another 3 years, before announcing his retirement at the end of the 2021-22 season.
Josefson, has already appeared in a preseason game for the club against Almtuna IS.
Jacob Josefson's Career Before Announce His Retirement
The 34-year old forward never truly had much success in the National Hockey League, as he couldn't manage to stay health for a single season.
In 315 NHL games, he had 64 points (20G, 44A), but his numbers in the SHL were slightly better, as he has 101 points (37G, 64A) in 191 games.
Now it's time to see if he can stay healthy enough during his second-tenure in professional hockey.
