The New York Rangers have one selection in the 2nd-round of the 2025 NHL Draft, at 43rd overall. The team will have plenty of talent to work with in the second round, should the scouting team have done their job. Two players will be available who played for the US NDTP, William Moore, and Cole McKinney.
The New York Rangers have a knack for drafting players from the US NDTP. They could find some good talent this year in the second round, should they tap into the United States National Development Team Program.
IN the first two rounds, they'll be picking (12th) and (43rd) overall in the 2025 NHL Draft.
They could select William Moore or Cole McKinney.
William Moore provides a sizable option at center with a frame of 6'2", 174 pounds. He's chosen to play for Team USA, as a dual citizen of both Canada and the US, forever a USA Hockey member with his choice.
He's played with the potential 1st OA pick in this draft, Michael Misa, in the GTHL, and with Malcolm Spencer, with the Mississauga Senators, before he'd head to the Toronto Marlboros later in his career.
Moore would score 27 goals this season with the US NDTP U-18 team, finishing the year with 59 points in 64 games.
He'd continue to provide superb offensive production in the U18 Worlds, with 11 points (3-8) in seven games.
Moore is great at takeaways, and can speed up the transition to go straight to crashing the net, and is a great puck protector. There's a chance he may not make it to 43, but if he's available past 30, Chris Drury shouldn't hesitate. While he's breakaway skills find a way to beat goalies, and could be a great bumper on the power-play.
Moore's biggest issues are consistency, but his postseason play in the Worlds has shown he has what it takes to remain on the radar of NHL GMs everywhere.
Moore could end up being a
Tomas Hertl, or Alex Wennberg style player with a projection to land in the NHL in the next 3-4 years.
McKinney led the US NDTP in scoring this season, finishing the year with 27 points and 61 goals.
The 6' 198-pound forward could end up going up in the high 20s to pick No.50, depending on what pundits you trust and follow. He had three goals and five points in seven games at the U18 Worlds.
He's a right-handed center and can be a dual threat playing on special teams, winning in the face-off circle, and has a great shot, along with his skillful hands.
His shooting percentage in the USHL was 23%, which may not be sustainable as he rises through juniors to the AHL when he does decide to turn pro, but his skating should help him get past opponents easily.
McKinniey can help turn a negative play into a positive, working hard in front of the net to create offense and capitalize on rebounds left over by the goalie. He can provide a burst of speed to generate space, and can play on his offside on the power-play.
With his versatility, and size he projects to be a middle-six center and with the plethora of talent available in 2025 he could be availbel at 43rd overall due to the capacity of centers in this draft class.
