Yesterday, it was reported that Rangers goaltender Louis Domingue has decided to sign a contract with the KHL.
Domingue Has been with the New York Rangers organization since 2022 and has only played one game on January 5th, 2025, against the Chicago Blackhawks where he had won.
Domingue was unable to crack the Lineup on a regular basis
Domingue was drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes back in 2010, fifth round 138th overall. During his time in the NHL which began in 2014, he had played for several organizations including the Coyotes, Lightning, Devils, Canucks, Flames, Penguins and the Rangers.
Over the last two years he has only played two games for the Rangers and was unable to crack the lineup as backup goaltender Jonathan quick took the job and has never let it go since his arrival.
Domingue instead has played for the Hartford Wolfpack over the past three years.
This year stats have not been as impressive as his previous years as his goals against has shot up to 3.32 and his save percentage has dipped to .896 compared to his year previous where his goals against was 2.66 and his save percentage was .909.
New opportunities for goaltending depth for Rangers
With Domingue heading overseas, this will present an opportunity for some of the goaltending depth in the Rangers to have some work with the Wolfpack.
The recent addition of
Callum Tung to the organization will certainly boost the
Rangers depth in goal, it will also give chances for players like
Hugo Ollas,
Talyn Boyko and
Dylan Garand More time to either impress the organization or potentially find a spot in Hartford.
With
Jonathan Quick aging and likely in his last deal next year the Rangers will need to find a backup that suitable and this will help the players make the case for themselves.
