Peter Laviolette doesn't hold back when addressing Matt Rempe's game misconduct
The New York Rangers finally managed to snap their losing streak after making a few roster changers, ultimately having
Matthew Rempe return to the line after being recalled from the
Hartford Wolf Pack.
Friday night, the Rangers showed up ready and managed to take a 3-1 victory over the Stars. Unfortunately things took an unexpected turn when Matt Rempe got ejected from the game after laying a nasty headshot on
Miro Heiskanen.
Matt Rempe gets tossed for this hit on Miro Heiskanen in his 1st game back up with the Rangers 😬
And now, Matt Rempe faces a major suspension as the NHL Department of Player Safety made an announcement earlier this morning and ruled that he will have an in-person hearing for that hit.
NY Rangers' Matt Rempe has been offered an in-person hearing for boarding/elbowing Dallas' Miro Heiskanen. Date and time TBD.
However, following the game Peter Laviolette didn't hold back and gave an honest response to Mollie Walker of the New York Post when asked about Matt Rempe.
Here's what he had to say:
#NYR head coach Peter Laviolette on Matt Rempe tonight:
"I thought he had a big impact on the game. We'd like to stay away from the 5-minute major, but he's doing his best to hit bodies and make a difference in the game. Our guys really rallied around that."
As far as the hit, Laviolette said he didn't get a chance to see the replay yet.
"I thought he led off a little bit at the end, he's just such a big guy. We killed the five and we're moving on."
Laviolette is not wrong, the Rangers truly rallied behind killing off 17 minutes of power-play time for the Stars and still managed to take a 3-1 victory.
