New York Rangers prospect, Gabe Perreault, could find himself in a larger role for the organization next season. Though it remains to be seen whether it'll be temporary, or GM Chris Drury will start him with the Hartford Wolfpack, nevertheless, he deserves a longer look.
Perreault made his jump into the NHL after playing two years with the Boston College Eagles in the NCAA.
He'd find himself playing in five NHL games after suiting up for the Rangers for the first time. While he wouldn't register a point, he made an impact on the ice and made NHLers take notice.
Perreault would see time on the power play and would find himself shifted up and down the lineup.
«I think it definitely helps,» Perreault said about his five games playing for the Rangers. «Obviously I played against some good teams, all five teams I played are playoff teams. I think getting that experience to see what's like a little bit helps me going into training in the summer and kind of know a little more what to expect.»
Perreault will gear up for 2025-2026 in a way that we won't expect. This offseason, he's expected to train with a slew of NHL stars, including former Ranger
Patrick Kane.
While his aspirations remain to make the Rangers roster, it'll be a fierce battle at the start of training camp.
If Perreault can back up his offensive game with good backchecking, we could very well see the dynamic forward in a top-six role in New York.
Perreault is a playmaker, and it'll be curious to see how he fits in Mike Sullivan's game plan for the Rangers next season.
«I think that it really is an individualized process,» Sullivan said about his philosophy of managing young talent. «I don't think you can paint every player with the same brush. Everyone is different. Part of coaching or the art of coaching, I guess, is trying to figure out what that daily recipe is that's best for the player.
«Sometimes it's time in the American League as a young player, sometimes it's time in the National League depending on the types of minutes that that player can play. What I will tell you is that I think it's important that every player earns their opportunities, that no one's entitled to an opportunity.»
Perreault has a shot with a new head coach to score a new opportunity with the team that drafted him. It's up to the former Boston College Eagle to prove he's worth the 1st-round capital spent to pick him.
