They refuse to do their basic duties on the ice, which include forechecking, defending, and attacking high-danger spots on the ice.
It sounds more or less like what we've suspected all along is true. And a huge reason why New York Rangers coaches never survive the gauntlet that is Madison Square Garden.
Star players who refused to play hockey 101, and Coaches who try to get through to them. We long suspected that they tuned out Laviolette.
Perhaps another reason why they failed to succeed and make it into the playoffs. They refused (Artemi Panarin and others) to go above and beyond on the ice, and instead opted to play without heart.
The result? 5th in the metropolitan division, and no playoff spot to be had in April.
The Rangers finished with a record of 39-36-7, with an early exit and the firing of Peter Laviolette.
Laviolette was in his 2nd year with the team, and suffered the same fate as Gerard Gallant and David Quinn before him.
It is much easier to fire a coach than turn over an entire roster.
