NHL Insider reveals Artemi Panarin's future with the New York Rangers is set to take a massive turn
According to recent reports the New York Rangers will have a a very big decision to make regarding Artemi Panarin's future with the organization.
Following the 2025-26 season, Panarin's eight-year $81.5 Million contract will expire and he will become an unrestricted free agent, and many teams will be looking to acquire his skills.
Despite Artemi Panarin being 33-years old, he's still a very productive player as he just finished the 2024-25 season with a total of 89 points (37 G, 52 A), and a year prior with 120 points (49 G, 71 A) during the 2023-24 campaign.
Leaving no doubt that Panarin is still one of the best "point-getters" in the entire National Hockey League. So the New York Rangers and General Manager Chris Drury will have to decide if they want to give a contract extension either this summer or some time before he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
According to recent reports from Arthur Staple of The Athletic, Artemi Panarin is one of the team's untouchables in thihs offseason's trade talks, indicating the New York Rangers still value his skills.
However, the only issue regarding Panarin securing a contract extension with the Rangers is his age, as he currently 33-years old, and will likey be looking for a pay raise considering his recent production.
If Chris Drury and the Rangers decide to dish out a long-term contract extension, it just may not age very well as there is a very good chance Panarin's production could slow down as he gets older, something we've all seen in the NHL.
Along with that, we have seen that Chris Drury will not hesitate to make a trade if needed, as he sent a clear message by trading veteran forward Chris Krieder and his entire $6.5 Million AAV to the Anaheim Ducks, following a down year in his production.
The Rangers are still looking to compete for the Stanley Cup next season, leaving Drury to move on from some of the veteran players who had contracts he didn't see fitting with his new game plan, including
Barclay Goodrow,
Jacob Trouba, and most recently Kreider.
