New York Rangers defensive prospect who was drafted with the 70th overall pick of the 2025 NHL Draft, has joined a shocking conference rival of Northeastern University.

During the 2025 NHL Entry Draft the New York Rangers managed to draft 6'5» defenseman Sean Barnhill, a Scottsdale, AZ native, with their 70th overall pick.
Rangers select defenseman Sean Barnhill at No. 70 overall.

Colleague @scottcwheeler: "He's worth a shot because if it clicks, he has the tools of some players who will go a lot higher than him."

At No. 70, #NYR select D Sean Barnhill

Sean Barnhill Commits To Michigan State University

Following the draft, several reports surfaced that stated Barnhill was committed to the Northeastern Huskies, a University in Boston, Massachusetts.
#NYR 70th overall pick Sean Barnhill isn't in LA, but he spent this past season with the @fightingsaints.

He's committed to @GoNUmhockey, not sure if he'll be attending this fall, but he's been known to be a very strong skater, a mobile defensive-defensemen with some size at 6'5.
However, it now appears that he has changed his mind and will be joining Michigan State, a conference rival of the Northeastern University.
The Spartan Hockey program has a rich history, from its initial season in 1922 to the Big Ten Champions of 2023-24, so it makes sense for any player to want to join their team.
