New York Rangers Broadcaster Gets Support from NHL Community following devastating news
The New York Rangers broadcaster John Giannone announced troubling news of a cancer diagnosis. The news was revealed on an MSG Networks broadcast while the team battled against the Dallas Stars last month. Now, Giannone has received an outpouring of support from the NHL community.
Whilst the Four Nations Face-Off continues to hog the spotlight currently, we can't let important news fall to the wayside.
That news is John Giannone has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
He'd mention the outflow of support that would grow after his announcement that the support he'd received was overwhelming.
On January 8, the MSG Network stalwart took to X to note how he received incredible backing from the fans after they learned about his prostate cancer battle. «As I said last night on @MSGNetworks, the support since my prostate cancer diagnosis has been overwhelming and SO impactful,
Giannone would continue to write his fans and thank them for their love and support during this difficult period in his life.
THANK YOU for all the well wishes. I have read them all. And I will cherish them all,» John wrote in his X post.
Giannone mentioned how he found out he had cancer after a routine physical, something everyone should have. They found it after an MRI and a blood test according to the broadcaster.
«It came after a routine yearly physical. A heightened blood test that led to an MRI and then finally a biopsy that produced the diagnosis,» Giannone
He's been supported by his colleague Steve Valiquette who has been by his side every step of the way.
Thankfully, we haven't received any more negative news afterward, but you think they'd kickstart the battle against the cancer after he'd been diagnosed.
Fans who had battled cancer had shown up as well, to lend their story and soothe Giannone.
He mentioned how proper medical care and support can make the biggest change so cancer doesn't always win.
«As a cancer survivor I am praying for you. Since my operation 5 years ago I have been cancer free. There is hope. God bless you and your family,» the fan commented under John's post. «It's coming up on 10 years ago that I was diagnosed with prostate cancer & treated with CyberKnife radiation at NYU Langone by Dr Jonathan Haas. I am fine & I'm sure you will be too. Wishing you the same results I have had,»
For now, he has a plethora of Rangers fans who have gone through the same battle in the community with him.
Hockey has one of the best communities in sports, and Rangers fans and Giannone's colleagues are showing why.
Here's to beating cancer, John.
