It was clear that Rangers rookie Matt Rempe was going to have a sensational first game of his NHL career.
Having become the first rookie to ever play in a stadium series game certainly will add to his accomplishments as a player but just as the game was about to begin NHL veteran Matt Martin of the Islanders gave Matt Rempe a proper start to his NHL career.
After briefly chatting with the veteran, Martin ask Matt Rempe if he would fight and in one second of his first NHL shift, he was dropping the gloves with 14-year NHL veteran.
With Rempe's long reach and standing at six foot 7 241 lbs he clearly had the advantage over Martin and both men gave a great tilt in front of almost 80,000 fans.
After the game was over, Matt Rempe was asked on how he felt about fighting Martin and the overall experience of his first game in the NHL.
Hats off to Martin for showing the youngster a great start to the NHL and all the congratulating he did for making it to the league.
With his performance today, I would expect him to remain with the team for the rest of the season as he could become a fixture on their bottom 6 going forward.
