After a terrible finish to the Stanley Cup finals for the Edmonton Oilers, Captain Connor McDavid has been silent this offseason. Instead of engaging in contract talks with the Oilers, it's given a vacuum for rumors to proliferate about a trade for the superstar forward, could Connor McDavid be a future Blueshirt?

For all that's it's worth, if you ever have a shot at a generational talent, like Connor McDavid, you take it. For McDavid, he's willed the Edmonton Oilers to the Stanley Cup finals twice in two seasons now.
Each time, they've been felled by the Florida Panthers, which gives him pause about his future in Edmonton.
If McDavid were to hit the market in the NHL, the teams lining up to sign him might be endless, and GM Chris Drury should be in the mix.
While Drury might have to clear cap space to make it work, say an Artemi Panarin trade, it could happen.
What does the future hold for McDavid?

McDavid's Future in Edmonton Decided

For Connor McDavid, he's stuck with the team that drafted him 1st OA in 2015; the Oilers. And it appears he may be remaining there as contract negotiations appear to be happening, but not advertised.
According to the 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast, McDavid is set to sign a deal with a 2 or 4-year term with GM Stan Bowman and the Oilers.

We believe it could be a 2 year deal or a 4 year deal as the
@EdmontonOilers
already know McDavid won't be signing an 8 year extension this time around.

The conversation on AAV has gone from $16M to around $17.5M from what we've been told.

The Oilers still have other work to do to make sure this extension happens & those things are being worked on over the next 3-4 weeks as Stan Bowman & Jeff Jackson have a busy August ahead of them.
It appears that GM Chris Drury and the New York Rangers won't have a shot at the generational talent that Edmonton has cultivated.
For now, they'll have to draft and develop their own.
