The New York Rangers newest assistant coach David Quinn is expected to take on a massive role with the organization this time around. According to reports he'll be joining the team to help with the power-play, in lieu of assistant coach Dan Muse heading to Pittsburgh, ironically.

The New York Rangers coaching staff has been complete for awhile now after the organization announced the hiring of three assistant coaches, David Quinn, Joe Sacco, and Ty Hennes back on June 5th.
It's difficult to tell the position a new coach will take, after all, hiring doesn't come quickly, usually. Sometimes they bring their own people along with them, and for the Rangers, David Quinn was one of them.
It'd be quite a conundrum considering he's already been here once. But he was on Sullivan's staff in Pittsburgh, and it was difficult to not to see him having a shot at a job here as well.
While we don't have to remember Quinn's time here as a coach, because it was anything but spectacular, we could look to the positives if he returns.
However, in Pittsburgh, David Quinn was responsible for the team's successful power-play, which ranked 5th in the NHL this season, with a 25.8% percentage in the NHL.
A pretty great statistic for Quinn, especially something the New York Rangers cleary lacked during the 2024-25 season, so having him run the teams PP uint will certainly be beneficial for the Rangers in the upcoming season.
Just last season the Pittsburgh Penguins, with Quinn's help, would score a whopping 57 goals, as the New York Rangers only managed to tally 37 with a 17.6% percentage in the NHL.
As we all know, the Rangers had a dismal power-play this past season, and it sounds like Quinn might be the one to help rejuvenate it's life in Madison Square Garden and beyond.
