It was then reported that Penguins assistant coach Todd Reirden was fired by Dubas which has created a bigger rift between the two men. With the NHS in a coaching flux with several teams looking to either replace their current coach or deciding on whether the interim people are who they want, the Penguins are also another team that could be on the coaching watch.
Sullivan has had a great record with Pittsburgh and had ones 2 Stanley cups in his first two seasons with the team. It's only been recently that he's had poor results as he has missed the playoffs 2 years in a row. While some blame always falls on the coaches feet, the roster construction and the age of this team are starting to show themselves and the Penguins need a retool or a possible rebuild soon.
If Dubas decides to fire Sullivan, his unemployment stay will be one of the shortest in NHL history. Several teams will be lining up to hire him including the Rangers other archrival the New Jersey Devils who has a history with Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald.
