The New York Rangers have announced a major signing, as they have welcomed center Justin Dowling to the team. Dowling, a former New Jersey Devils agreed to terms with GM Chris Drury and the Rangers to a two-year contract.
The New York Rangers added some depth this offseason. The team announced the signing of depth forward Justin Dowling to the team.
He'll be earning $775K over the next two years with the Rangers, which includes a two-way option. If he gets sent down to the AHL, he'll earn an AAV of $450K with the Hartford Wolfpack.
Dowling most recently played for the New Jersey Devils under Sheldon Keefe, playing a total of 52 games in the NHL, scoring 7 points (2-5), and 2 games with the Utica Comets in the AHL, adding 4 points (2-2) in 7 games.
The 34-year-old forward was an undrafted forward who used to play for the Swift Current Broncos, and began his professional hockey career in the AHL with the Stockton Heat.
He'd win the Calder Cup in 2013-14 with the Texas Stars, and wouldn't make his NHL debut until the 2016-17 season with the Dallas Stars.
Dowling has played a total of 152 games in the NHL and has been an AHL journeyman his entire career. He's scored a total of 26 points (9-17) in that time period and has been a depth piece his entire career.
Difficult to tell, as the Rangers' forward core is stacked with depth at the moment.
