Transaction: Hurricanes star forward to sign with the Rangers next season?
The Caroline Hurricanes are unavailable to sign Jake Guentzel to a new contract. Does this mean the New York Rangers have a chance at securing the star forward?
The Hurricanes acquired Jake Guentzel from the Pittsburgh Penguins at the NHL trade deadline, in seek of boosting their roster.
Unfortunately for the Hurricanes the deal didn't quite work out the way they'd hoped as they were eliminated from the playoffs by the New York Rangers.
However, after many attempts to sign Guentzel, it has become clear the organization that they won't be able to secure a deal.
This morning NHL Insider, Elliotte Friedman revealed the asking cost for Guentzel is a mid-round pick.
On Jake Guentzel: Elliotte says "It sounds like he is available for a mid round pick." #CauseChaos #NHL
With that being said the New York Rangers are unfortunately not among the possible candidates to acquire Guentzel, at least for the moment. Over the last week or so Jake Guentzel has been linked to both the Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks who are desperately in need of his skills.
