Several intriguing teams have emerged to acquire New York Rangers star player this offseason
Several intriguing teams have emerged to acquire New York Rangers star player this offseason as several reports indicate that he has played his last season with the organization.
According to several reports,
Chris Kreider of the New York Rangers has played his final season with the team, after spending his entire 13-year career with the Blueshirts. But with news of a retool in the future, Kreider's future may soon be at an end.
Kreider's exit interview with the local media, was harrowing. The realization for many Rangers fans that his time could come at an end is something that's been brought up time and again. This time around he was asked about his plans to stay with New York.
However, multiple reports suggest that both he and the Rangers agree that it might be time to move on. NHL writer Phil Kocher said, «There is a strong sense that the feeling is mutual Kreider recognizes that the relationship has run its course.»
The 34-year old, still has two-years left on his seven-year, $45.5 million deal he signed during the 2020 season.
After a decline in production and injury issues this season, GM Chris Drury could find a way to trade the gritty forward to give him a fresh start. This past season, he only scored 30 points (22 goals, 8 assists) in 68 games for the Rangers. A low point for a player who has been a perennial 30+ goal scorer.
Chris Drury and the Rangers could find buyers in both Boston and Utah.
One trade proposal sees Chris Kreider being sent to the desert, in return the Rangers get younger with
Barrett Hayton being sent back to MSG.
Hayton's in the final year of his two-year $5.3 million contract with the Mammoth and scored 46 points (20 goals, 26 assists) in 82 games with the team formerly known as the Hockey Club.
Adding Hayton would improve the team's center depth, and give themselves some flexibility on the third line. While Kreider would increase the level of compete for the Mammoth, and give them some veteran experience sorely needed.
The Boston Bruins, like the New York Rangers, performed horridly during the regular season and didn't secure a trip to the playoffs. They'll be undergoing a retool, as Don Sweeney will need to ship out players for winning pieces. An interesting proposal for the Rangers has surfaced, with
Pavel Zacha,
Fabian Lysell, and a draft pick being sent in return for Kreider.
The Bruins are considering sending Pavel Zacha, Fabian Lysell, and a 2026 first-round draft pick to the Rangers in exchange for Kreider.
Zacha is a 28-year-old center with a $4.75 million cap hit. Lysell is a Swedish rookie winger who spent most of the season in the AHL. He has a cap hit of $863,000.
Not only that, but the Rangers would have to retain some of Kreider's $6.5 million salary to sweeten the deal.
Giving Kreider a chance to play in his home state would be great for the Bruins, as he could find a home on the top line with
David Pastrnak.
