Recent reports confirm Rangers legendary broadcaster Sam Rosen is set to return next season
Sam Rosen, 77, the legendary voice behind the New York Rangers, broke the heart of thousands when he announced that this would be his last season as the play-by-play commentator.
While this news was undoubtedly heartbreaking for the Rangers faithful, new reports have given fans a massive reason to be excited.
It's no secret that Sam Rosen is one of the most iconic voices in hockey. After 40 beautiful years, the veteran voice of the New York Rangers has already cemented his legacy as he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and continues to deliver timeless performances behind the microphone.
While it has been confirmed that Rosen will not be returning as the play-by-play commentator for next season, new reports indicate that Rosen will return to the organization "in some capacity" next season.
Sam Rosen to return to the New York Rangers
According to Essentially Sports,
New Ice City released a podcast last week featuring Rosen. During the chat, the iconic broadcaster shared insights into the Rangers 100th anniversary celebration.
«Next year, it's gonna be the 100th anniversary of the Rangers and certainly, I'll be involved in some capacity. We'll see whatever the role, if the NHL, or the Rangers or the MSG Network, they want me to do something for them, I'll always say yes.»
While Rosen has ultimately decided to hang up the mic for good, it's still great to see he's willing to take on additional jobs for special occasions.
Much like TSN announcer Bob McKenzie, Sam Rosen hinted that he will remain available for special occasions and celebrations, taking on a special role in the broadcast when called on.
Before announcing his retirement, Rosen emphasized the impact the Rangers organization has had in his life:
"I grew up in New York. I grew up in Brooklyn. I grew up as a Rangers fan. To do this for as long as I have is unbelievable. You don't keep count while you're doing it but when you reach this point you can look back and say, 'Hey, this has been a pretty good run.' And, of course, 1994 makes it the ultimate because they won the biggest prize of all, and they won it at the Garden, and nothing could be better than that."
I think I speak for everyone when I say we're all excited to have Sam back -- even if it's just for one day.
