The Rangers organization has received an interesting and unique situation when they hired former Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette to guide their bench this season.
During a media scrum, Laviolette was asked about how the Rangers will handle the capitals defensive style of hockey to which he explained that the Rangers will focus on their game style.
It's become clear that the Capitals play a more defensive style of game as the team lacks quality offence who are not named Alexander Ovechkin. Laviolette is right that the team needs to focus on their style and put as many pucks on capitals goalie Charlie Lindgren as the Rangers have more depth on the offensive side.
It's important to note that the Capitals willed themselves into the playoffs as it was highly unlikely less than two months ago that they would be in this position. The team held a - 37 goal differential which does not bode well for playoff success.
However, the Rangers do not want to be complacent or feel that the capitals will be a pushover team. The Rangers series will begin on Sunday April 21st and game time will be at 3:00 PM eastern at MSG.
