New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette decided to make Monday's practice a bit more interesting after a dominant 5-2 victory over the Islanders on Sunday.

After the Rangers took part in their usual drills, Peter Laviolette decided to switch things up, making the players scrimmage in four-on-fours and then switching into three-on-threes.

Despite the New York Rangers only having one of their 11 games go into overtime, Laviolette believed it was a good idea to get some extra practice for when the opportunity comes again, and it's likely it will.

Here's Laviolette's reasoning behind running these drills:

«We always work on it. It happened last year, it's happened this year, whether it's meetings or video, going on the ice and working on it,» Laviolette said. «Coming off of that game, it was something to make things more competitive, three-on-threes, four-on-fours, even breakaways.»

However, the New York Rangers ended their practice with a shootout competition, which seemed to bring a ton of joy and excitement for the players as they were able to display their competitive spirit amongst each other.

As it was reported by Remy Mastey of The Hockey News, that almost every player got a turn to try and score during the shootout. But once the competition over the players in white celebrated like they won the Stanley Cup.

The Rangers did a mock shootout and here's the celebration immediately after Braden Schneider scored the winning goal. #NYR

The Rangers have always shown this friendly competitiveness amongst each other since the beginning of training camp and it's truly great to see how they push each other to be better.
